areas of work that interest me
The fashion industry is such a broad industry. You can do anything related to fashion from business to photography to creative directing and styling or even journalism, the list goes on. The main area that interests me the most and what I am working towards is creative directing. I am incredibly young now, I am only 18 years old, and all I really know is that I want to be where the action is. By that I mean I want to be on the photoshoots, I want to work for the top magazines such as Dazed or Please magazine. I want to be the one that decides what we post or publish and when. That is my main goal. My biggest concern is how do I get there? Well, I have no idea... all I know is that I must try everything that comes my way and seize every single opportunity I get so I can grow and learn by expanding my area of expertise. That is the only way I know of that can lead me to the answer of how I get there. Everyone outside the industry who has never worked with fashion does not understand how hard it can be. All I ever hear from them is ‘just get an internship and you’ll be fine’ but where? And how? And which brand do I choose that will lead me to the right place? The truth is no one really knows. What I have learned so far from being in the industry for about a year is to just follow my gut, and never ever say no, take time to think about everything.
Before I go completely off topic, let us get back to fashion industry jobs that interest me. Again, there are so many. Another job that will forever be something I can dream of is modelling. I have such a strong love for modelling that a lot of people do not understand. I have only modelled for a few students who are studying fashion and needed models for their photo shoots and projects, but it has shown me how much fun it really is. There is something so satisfactory when you finally get “the shot” and you are the one who has helped make the idea come to life. Of course, the modelling industry, especially in fashion, is even harder to break into considering we are still breaking down the negative stereotypes that surround the modelling industry. Anyways, I am going off track yet again. I find that once I start typing I find it hard to really stop. I could talk forever on all these different problems the fashion industry is currently facing but I will save that for another blog post.
What do you folks think? Let me know, also if you would like to hear me speak on anything else, please do send in a request I would love to give you another outside opinion 😊
