reflective essay:
my Name is Daniela Nolan and I am an 18 years old foreign student from Ireland currently living in the United Kingdom. I just started studying fashion in September in Norwich University of the Arts and of course as you can imagine this has been a huge change in my life, moving country along with living alone for the first time.there have been many challenges thrown my way so far this school year but in the end I have overcome all of them and am learning loads along the way. looking back at the beginning of the school year I have read and learned things about the history of fashion and fashion tribes that I have never even heard of before. when we were set our trend report project I can definitely say that I struggled a lot in the beginning, not only to write about the current fashion trends but to use the app indesign along with editing and referencing photos from catwalks. I very slowly got the hang of using the app after a lot of time and frustration but in the end I am just learning as its my first time using any of these apps and digitally making fashion mood boards and color boards.
once we were set our second project which was the blog, I can definitely say I did very much struggle again but powered through and finally got the hang of it. I found choosing what my blog should look like, colours I can use and features I could add was a lot of fun for me. I have definitely struggled to reach the word count per blog post but tried my best to push myself to not give up on myself and my blog.
I also had many lighting induction and introductions to the DSLR camera which was definitely my favourite part. fashion photography has always been natural to me so my first thought was ‘something im finally good at’. once the inductions were finished and we were briefed on out Dazed magazine Cover shoot I have never been so exited. it was also my first time working in a group which I found a lot of fun and educational to hear others opinions and thoughts and suggestions. for the shoot we planned and styled outfits and created props which was very exiting. for the shoot I got to model along with being the photographer and stylist which was so much fun for me. I find that I enjoy more of the creative side rather than the digital side of fashion communications but even if I get tired I never get tired of my course. after the dazed photo shoot, going through the images did take a lot of time but I again had so much fun doing it. I have realised through this project that fashion photography might possibly be something that I would want to do in the future.
