Gucci Cosmos Exhibition

7/09/2023

I recently visited the gucci cosmos exhibition in London yesterday. forget everything you thought you knew about fashion exhibitions, the Gucci Cosmos is something else entirely. this immersive showcase celebrating the stories Italian brands 102-year history debuted in Shanghai this spring, and a new iteration of it has now landed in London, bringing both never-before-seen archival designs and surreal conceptual art to the strands 180 Studios. a series of revolving doors led me through the exhibitions various rooms. In nine immersive installations, the story of the House unfolds– from the elevator of a famed hotel where Guccio Gucci dreamed that one day luggage would bear his name to the vision of the latest Gucci Ancora fashion show by Creative Director Sabato De Sarno.

“the revolving doors through out the Gucci Cosmos Exhibition are referred to as Portals. Portals is the entrance into the universe of Gucci, taking them from an installation in which the brands beginnings and origins. Concentric circles of conveyor belts in conceptual white evoke the worldly and cosmopolitan idea of travel that attracted the faithfulGucci clientele from the outset. portals narrates a way of movement that wanders, explores, visits, observes, and reaches a destination, but also dreams-an approach that Gucci has always been able to portray thanks to unique savour-fair that is continuously reinterpreted in a contemporary light for travellers and explores of every era”my favourite room being last in the exhibition, the ‘Archivio’ room. this room is designed to capture the feeling of entering the houses archives, with a series of shelves encasing previous Gucci objects. the long halls with mirrors on the sides give a never-ending effect and looking almost like a maze.

Displayed under larger-than-life floral sculptures, the houses iconic Flora print collection was inspired by silk scarf created for Princess Grace of Monaco before acting as a source of inspiration for creatives to come.

Cabinet of Wonders is a trunk that preserves and celebrates the elements of a Gucci wardrobe suspended in time, allowing precious objects of affection the evoke the passions and desires of various owners to coexist. the Cabinet of Wonders is designed to preserve a constellation of artefacts in such a way as to intimately enjoy there beauty and magic of the unique process whereby they were created.

Speaking to the brands consistent belief in unisex clothing, two 10-metre-tall statues are adorned with various projections of men’s and women’s suiting from both the past and present.
